 Carol Mertz's Sugar Cookies from Lois

3.5-4 cups flour

1 cup buttermilk

2 cups sugar

1 cup butter crisco

1 t salt

2 T baking powder (heaping)

1 t basking soda (heaping)

2 eggs

1-1.5 t vanilla


Mix baking powder and flour.  Set aside.

Mix baking soda with buttermilk.  Set aside.

Cream crisco, sugar, and eggs together.  Add vanilla, salt, and buttermilk/baking soda to mixture.  Cream together by beating for 4 minutes.  

Mix in flour mixture.  May have to add flour and sugar (to taste).

Can form into balls and flatter or roll out for cut outs.

Bake 350 for 8-10 minutes.

Do NOT brown unless you want crunchy cookies.
