Aunt Rose’s Coffee Cakes

I think that everyone remembers Aunt Rose’s Coffee Cakes. She was always making them for someone. When she lived with us, I remember her getting up at 2 a.m. to start baking them.

1 cup warm water
2 packages yeast (2 tablespoons)
1 Tablespoon sugar

Let the yeast dissolve in this and then add:
1 cup hot milk
1 cup sugar
1 stick butter (place in hot milk to melt)
1 Tablespoon salt

Let cool, and then add by hand (don't use an electric mixer):
4 beaten eggs
About 6 cups flour.

Put in large bowl. Let rise until double. Work into loaves, put in greased pans and let rise again. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Butter tops and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
