Biscuits

3 cups all-purpose flour

4 ½ tsp. baking powder

1 ½ tsp. salt

4 ½ tsp. white sugar

1/2 cup shortening

1 ½ cup milk

Preheat oven to 450⁰ F.

In a large bowl, whisk together baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually stir in milk until dough pulls away from side of bowl.

Turn out onto a floured surface and knead 15 to 20 times. Pat or roll out to 3/4 inch thickness. Cut biscuits with large cutter or juice glass dipped in flour. Repeat until all dough is used. Place biscuits onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven 12 to 15 minutes or until edges begin to brown. Yield: 15 biscuits
